Delete your account

Last updated

You can delete your Board Game Metrics account and the data in it whenever you like, from the app or by email. Deleting it is permanent: we can’t bring it back.

Have Plus? Deleting your account doesn’t cancel your subscription — do that first in the App Store or Google Play (see cancelling Plus), or you’ll keep being charged.

In the app

  1. Open Board Game Metrics and sign in.
  2. Go to Profile.
  3. Tap Delete account, and confirm.

Your account is deleted straight away and you’re signed out.

Using the app without an account? Profile → Delete what I added deletes the guest account and everything in it.

If you signed in with Apple, the app asks Apple to confirm it’s you. We then tell Apple to stop sharing your sign-in with us, and Board Game Metrics disappears from the apps listed under Sign in with Apple in your Apple Account settings.

Without the app

If you no longer have the app or can’t sign in, email privacy@boardgamemetrics.com from the email address on your account, with the subject “Delete my account”. If you sign in with Apple and chose to hide your email, tell us your display name or handle instead and we’ll find a way to confirm it’s you.

We’ll confirm and delete the account within 30 days, and reply when it’s done.

What is deleted

  • your sign-in, email address and profile: name, handle and picture;
  • your library, wishlist, ratings, rankings and every comparison answer;
  • your friends, friend requests, blocks and invite code;
  • your BoardGameGeek link, and the note of which BGG plays you imported;
  • the games you logged that nobody else was in, including plays imported from BoardGameGeek;
  • the guest players you added outside groups;
  • your group memberships and invitations;
  • groups you owned where nobody else is a member, with their pictures;
  • your Plus status;
  • your notifications, your notification settings and the push tokens of your phones.

What stays

Board games are played together, so some records belong to other people too:

  • Games you played with others stay in their history. The sessions keep the game, date, scores and winner, and show your name as it was in the list of players. They are no longer linked to any account. If you’d like your name replaced in those sessions as well, ask us at privacy@boardgamemetrics.com and we’ll change it to “Former player”.
  • Sessions you logged stay for the other players, without your account attached.
  • Groups you owned that have other members are handed to another member (the longest-standing admin, otherwise the longest-standing member). Guest players you added to those groups move with them.
  • Feedback messages and survey answers you sent from the app stay, without your name or account, so we can still act on them and the survey’s totals stay right.
  • Notifications other people received about you, such as “Alex logged Catan with you”, keep your name as it was until they are deleted, 90 days after they were sent.
  • Plus records: a record of changes to your Plus (when it started and ended, and why), without your name, email or profile, is kept for up to 7 years.
  • Analytics events and error reports carry only your account’s id, not your name or email, and expire on their own: analytics after 2 months, error reports after 30 days.
  • Backups: your data is gone from our database backups within 7 days.

Data held by others

Your BoardGameGeek account, your Apple or Google account and your App Store or Google Play purchase history are held by those companies; delete or change them with them.
