What's in the box

Everything a game night leaves behind.

The scores on the back of the box lid, the arguments about who's really winning this year, the game that never gets played: kept in one place, on your phone.

  • Game library

Every game you own, want, used to own or would trade. Bring your BoardGameGeek collection across in one go.

  • Score sheets

Who played, who won, the scores, the teams and the expansions — logged before the box goes back on the shelf.

  • History of every game night

Games played, hours at the table and your win rate, competitive and co-op, going back to your first game.

  • Top-games rankingPlus

Choose between two games at a time and your ranking builds itself. Filter it by player count, play time or weight.

  • Friends

Add them by name, handle or QR code. See the games you both own and every game you have played together.

  • GroupsPlus

For your regular table: one shared history that every member can log into.

  • Shared library

One collection for the whole house. Share it with up to five friends and everyone sees every game, and the wish list too if you like.

  • Lent and borrowed

Lend a game to a friend or to anyone by name, keep track of what you have borrowed, and get a nudge when it has been away a month.

At the table

Made for one hand, between turns.

One question per screen and the big button at the bottom, so the next player isn't kept waiting.

  • Logging a game of Wingspan: four players and their scores, with Sam Rivera first and marked as the winner.

Log a game before the box goes back on the shelf.

  • Home: how many sessions, hours played and the win rate, the last three sessions and the most played games.

    Every game night adds up.

  • Statistics: plays, playtime, win rate, games played, people played with and the average play, over the most played games.

Your play in numbers, all time or this month.

  • Compare games: two game boxes side by side, asking which one you prefer.

Rank your games by picking one of two.

  • Head-to-head with a friend: games won by each of you, the last ten results and a chart of wins over time.

Find out who really wins at your table.

Who makes it

Made at home, by two of us.

We're Jurgens and Rebekah, a husband and wife in Australia. We're both developers, Rebekah is by far the creative one, and this is the first app we've ever launched. We're working it out as we go, and we'd really like your help.

Paying for it

Free while we work out the rest.

Early beta

Board Game Metrics

Free

  • Your game library — import it from BoardGameGeek in one go
  • Log as many games as you play, with friends or guest players
  • Your history: games played, hours at the table, win rate
  • Friends, and joining the groups other people host
  • Plus, free in the beta: host groups, rank your top games and see your taste in full

Everything is free for every account while the app is in early beta. Before that changes you get at least 30 days’ notice in the app, and nothing you’ve logged is deleted.

Running the app costs money every month: the database, the pictures, the emails. For now we pay for it ourselves. In the long run it could be a subscription for the bigger features the app calls Plus, ads, donations, or a mix of those.

We haven't decided, and we'd rather decide with you than for you.

How we're thinking about it
Questions at the table

Before you set up.

  1. What is Board Game Metrics?

A score pad that remembers. Log a game in a few taps — who played, who won, the scores — and Board Game Metrics keeps the history: your most-played games, your hours at the table, how often you win, the games you’ve played with each friend, and a ranking of your collection that you build by choosing between two games at a time.

  2. Is it free?

Yes. Your library, logging games, your history and statistics, friends, and joining other people’s groups are free. The bigger features the app calls Plus (hosting groups, ranking your games and your taste in full) are free too while the app is in early beta.

How we’ll pay to keep the app running after that isn’t decided yet: it could be a subscription for Plus, ads, donations, or a mix. You’ll get at least 30 days’ notice in the app before anything changes. See Keeping it running.

  3. What is the early beta?

Board Game Metrics has just launched and is still taking shape with the help of the people who use it. While it’s in early beta, everything is free for every account, Plus included: host groups and rank your games without paying. We’re also working out how to pay for the app after the beta, so tell us what works, what doesn’t and what you’d be happy with from Profile → Share beta feedback in the app.

  4. Do I need a BoardGameGeek account?

No. Game names and pictures come from BoardGameGeek, but you don’t need an account there. If you have one, you can link it and import your collection in one go.

  5. Can I log games with people who don't use the app?

Yes. Add them as a guest player by name and they’ll appear in the session and the statistics. If they join later, add them as a friend and tag them in future games.

  6. What is Plus?

Plus is what the app calls its bigger features: hosting groups (create a group, invite the people you play with, and log sessions for everyone), ranking your games by comparing two at a time, and your taste in full on your statistics (every mechanic, category and weight you play, and your hot takes). Groups and rankings cost the most to run: groups keep many people’s records in sync, and rankings recalculate with every answer.

During the early beta Plus is free for everyone. Whether it becomes a subscription after that, or the app is paid for another way, isn’t decided yet. See Keeping it running.

  7. Who can see my games and results?

Your library and rankings are private. A game you log is seen by the players tagged in it, and by the members of the group it was played in. Friends see your name and picture, the games you both own, and the games you’ve played together. The Privacy Policy has the details.
